Manufacturing Processes

What is Manufacturing?

  • Manufacturing is all about making useful products by using raw materials.
  • A new product needs to undergo some processes; these processes are called Manufacturing Processes. There are following processes in manufacturing:
1.Casting 2. Forming3. Welding 4. Machining
CastingCasting is a process in which we melt the metal and pour it into a mold to give the shape of our product.
FormingForming is a process in which we heat the metal and give shape by applying pressure.
Welding: Welding is a process in which we acquire the desired shape by joining the metal pieces.
MachiningMachining is a process in which we remove the excess material from the work piece to gain required shape.

Casting Processes:

  • Sand Casting
  • Die Casting
  • Investment Casting
  • Shell Moulding
  • Vacuum Die Casting
  • Centrifugal Die Casting etc.

Forming Processes:
  • Rolling
  • Forging
  • Extrusion
  • Wire Drawing
  • Rod Drawing
  • Swaging
  • Tube Making etc.

Welding Processes:
  • Gas Welding
  • Electric Arc Welding
  • Resistance Welding
  • Thermit Welding
  • Friction Welding
  • Soldering
  • Brazing etc.

Machining Processes:
  • Milling
  • Drilling
  • Grinding
  • Sawing
  • Boring
  • Lapping etc.
Non-conventional Machining Processes:
  • ECM - Electrochemical Machining
  • EDM - Electric Discharge Machining
  • EBM - Electron Beam Machining
  • PAM - Plasma Arc Machining
  • Ultrasonic Machining etc.
